What is CPAP?
CPAP stands for Continuous Positive Airway Pressure. A CPAP "machine" and "mask" is a breathing system for used in the early 1980's as a treatment for Sleep Apnea patients. It has since become the most popular and most successful way of treating sleep apnea.
What is Sleep Apnea?
Also referred to as "obstructive" sleep apnea, it is a breathing disorder that affects between 2% to 4% of all adults (male and female). It is a condition where breathing often suddenly stops during sleep. Symptoms may include waking up often for what seems like no reason at all, snorting or sudden gasping for air, the feeling of tiredness throughout the day, obesity, loss of memory and even heart failure.
